The Newsletter - Issue 9
Last week,
I had
a successful debut of another product - this time a $7 report. One of
the factors that helped bring in sales was a pre-selling video I
created for it. In this week's Product Creation Labs Newsletter, I'd
like to share with you how I made this powerful video:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=bxc15_SiWSE
Even before my report was presented to the public, sales started coming
in from the You Tube video. After releasing "Recipe For Quick And Easy
Product Creation", I had buyers comment that the dynamic video made it
impossible not to buy the report.
This video took me part of a fun day to put together. It will now sit
on You Tube for years, bringing in pre-sold traffic to my report.
It really is time for you to consider using video in your own
promotions. Time to join the video revolution. Remember that song
"Video Killed The Radio Star"? ;-)
CASE
STUDY: CREATING A DYNAMIC PROMO VIDEO
I had the
idea to
create a video that started with the problem of high-priced information
products being pushed by the "evil big buck marketers". The solution
would be $7 Secrets and the affordable reports that it fostered. This
would then lead to my own solution - a report that helped marketers
create great $7 reports of their own.
I decided to give the video a bit of a Terminator mood - with the
imminent annihilation of small and new marketers.
COLLECTING
IMAGES
I went to
iStockPhoto and started searching for images to use in my video. I
didn't have any set ideas yet, so I simply typed "dark" into the search
box to see what would come up. Looking through about 100 pages of
photos, I found a number of images that inspired me.
One was a photo of slash burning in Brazil, that would be a good photo
for the opening - with the voiceover speaking of annihilation. Then, I
found a few dark, slightly dubious characters that would be perfect for
the "evil big buck marketers".
Other images, like the sunrays beaming down through dark clouds, were
well-suited to represent the hope offered by $7 reports.
All together, I collected 29 images. Cost = $31.64

RECORDING
A VOICEOVER
This video
called
for a matter-of-fact, deadpan voice that conveyed the dark mood of an
Internet world where over-priced info products were making life
difficult for new marketers.
I decided to swipe a line spoken by Reese in "Terminator". I changed
"The disposal units ran day and night. We were that close to going out
forever." to "The Alliance's deadly websites and mailing lists ran
night and day. Small marketers were that close to going out forever."
After writing out a quick script, I recorded the voiceover using
Audacity. It took a few tries to get the right tone to my voice, after
which I amplified the sound to beef it up a bit.

BACKGROUND
MUSIC
To find
some
energetic music, I went to Music Bakery and listened to some of the
samples. I wanted something that matched the feeling and images of the
video. Cost = $39.95

The video required a clip of music just over 2 minutes long, so I cut
off the excess and then edited the music clip with a fade-out.
Audacity allows you to place the music on one track, and bring in the
narration on another track. Then I could adjust the timing of the start
of music and voiceover.
The music needed to start off booming, but then quieten down when the
narration started. I selected the whole section where the voiceover
would be speaking, and negative-amplified it.
Saving the result as a WAV file merged the tracks.
CONSTRUCTING
THE VIDEO
I used
Camtasia to assemble the video. First, I imported the WAV file and
placed it on the audio track.
Next, I placed the images on the timeline - only keeping each photo on
for a very short time, to increase the dynamism of the video. Sweeping
transitions were used, and their duration shortened to 1 second.
I used callouts to add text to the video. Text callouts also let me
create the lighting up of pinpoints of light across the map -
representing sales of reports. This was done with single, white periods.

Here's
what I like
about PCL newsletters - I always get something of value in them. So, I
am careful not to EVER delete one without reading it (something that I
cannot say for alot of the stuff my inbox gets inundated with).
Besides, you never bore me, Kevin.
