The Newsletter - Issue 3
This week,
I'd like to share with you my view of a popular cry to action -- heard
on every IM forum. It's a sentiment I agree with in one case, but quite
disagree with in another.
Let me explain. The cry I refer to is, "Ready! Fire! Aim!"
READY!
FIRE! AIM! -- A CURE
This cry
is meant to motivate those who are lagging in their efforts to get
their first information product on the market. It often accompanies the
advice to, "Don't overplan, just get the product out."
The case where I believe this cry is warranted? To cure the
debilitating attack of Analysis-Paralysis that grips many a would be
infopreneur. Many are held back by this malady, as they analyze an idea
to death -- never taking action to get started creating a product.
In this case, I firmly support "Ready! Fire! Aim!":
Ready: Get the research done in as little time as possible. Don't worry
about getting every scrap of information. Just get the main idea down.
Fire: Start writing. It doesn't matter what. Even if you are just
writing a chapter in the middle and have no idea what will come before
or after it, just start. The rest will fall in place.
Aim: Once you get started, it's time to take a closer look at where you
are going. Stand back and take a look at what you have so far ... and
what's needed yet. See what needs to be changed. Don't be afraid to be
ruthless -- that's why your computer has "Cut" and "Paste".
READY!
FIRE! AIM! -- WILL IT HIT OR MISS?
The case
where I don't agree with the "Ready! Fire! Aim!" mentality? When it
comes to releasing your product to the marketplace.
There are those who advise, "Just send it out! You can fix the mistakes
later."
Yes! You can fix your mistakes, but can you fix your broken reputation?
Can you fix the most valuable asset you and your business have?
Your reputation is a priceless treasure -- to be nurtured and
protected. Never endanger it by releasing a shoddy product.
I know! Mistakes happen ... things go wrong ... there are times when
errors will slip by, no matter how much you plan. But, if you Aim a bit
more before you Fire, you'll be much more assured of hitting the
bullseye with your product. You'll have happy customers who pass the
word about your quality -- not a bunch of disappointed people who will
spread the bad news like wildfire.
WHAT'S
THE CONCLUSION?
Do jump
right in and start shooting from the hip, when it comes to getting
started on creating your information product. Nobody's gonna get hurt
by any stray bullets.
But, take some time to steady your rifle and get a good bead on the
bullseye, when you are releasing your product into the market. A wild
shot here could give you a black eye.
Take some care and build a reputation as the infopreneur who delivers
great products.

I subscribe to a lot of IM

Here's
what I like
about PCL newsletters - I always get something of value in them. So, I
am careful not to EVER delete one without reading it (something that I
cannot say for alot of the stuff my inbox gets inundated with).
Besides, you never bore me, Kevin.
