The Newsletter - Issue 18

Rieko and I are landing at Changi and will be heading to the Grand Mercure Roxy shortly. If you're attending the Warrior Soire, please come over and say "Hi!"

But first, rush over right now and see what was under the wraps:

Take note at the bottom -- where I have the Singapore Special. If you're on of the first 20 to buy me a drink and place your order, I can promise you that you'll be smiling ;-)

[Sorry, Singappore Special is not available anymore]

Note: I don't like white wine or lite beer (actually most beers, unless they are very high-quality or Guinness). I do however have a fondness for rum drinks.

Also, while I'm in Singapore, I may not be able to check my messages regularly. So, any questions may go unanswered for a little while. Please, be patient.

OK, now that the important things have been taken care of (Don't read any further if you haven't clicked that link, yet. That info is time-sensitive), let's get on with this week's topic: Being a teacher.

BEING A TEACHER HELPS CREATE INFO PRODUCTS

The whole "reason for existing" behind info products is ... to teach. You're basically teaching your reader to do something, fix something, make something better. So, being a teacher helps you write great info products.

I've received a few comments on my products, where the writers said that I must be a teacher. Well ... they were quite correct.

Five years ago, the economy in Japan was not doing well and I had just suffered a major loss, when a real estate company went bankrupt and forfeited on paying for the houses I had built for them. Ouch!

The whole construction business was wearing me down, and I decided to take a break. I joined Berlitz and started teaching English here in Osaka.

It turned out to be a very wise move, for three reasons:

1. I met Rieko, who is my perfect soulmate. I hope you get to meet her in Singapore.

2. I had time to get back on the Internet, and start planning my future online.

3. I became a teacher. The training I received at Berlitz is invaluable.

GETTING THE POINT ACROSS

As a teacher, I developed ways of getting the point across to my students. It was my responsibility to make sure the student could fully comprehend the new vocabulary or grammar I was teaching that day.

With this experience in teaching, it makes me look at my info products in the same way. Am I getting my point across?

Just as I did in the classroom, I put myself in my reader's shoes. Would this make sense to someone who knows nothing about this topic?

You may find that I sometimes over-simplify some things in my products. It's better to make your instruction too easy, than too hard.

YOU CAN BE A TEACHER

So, how can this info help you? Maybe you haven't done any teaching. Well, are you ready to make an investment in your infopreneur business?

Volunteer to teach your subject at a night college, local community center, high school ... anywhere that classes are held. For example: If you want to write e-books about basket weaving, give a class in basket weaving.

It will open your eyes. Procedures that you thought were basic and easy to understand, you'll note that your students see it from a totally different perspective.

KEEPING IN PRACTICE ... AND IN TOUCH

I still teach part-time at Berlitz. I know, I don't need the job, but I need the contact with real people ... just like the real people I write my products for. I teach Business at Berlitz, so it's a great way for me to see how I can get marketing principles across. I have the extra challenge, of getting my point across in somebody's second language.

So ... find a way for you to practice your teaching. It will make a great infopreneur out of you.

Go forth and teach!

NEXT WEEK

I'll be writing to you after my plane touches down at Kansai (our international airport). I'll give you any good info gleaned from WIS, and you'll be able to read even more on the blog:

There's also going to be a discussion on branding, so be sure to have a look.

Until then, have a great weekend,

Here's what I like about PCL newsletters - I always get something of value in them. So, I am careful not to EVER delete one without reading it (something that I cannot say for alot of the stuff my inbox gets inundated with). Besides, you never bore me, Kevin.
