The Newsletter - Issue 13

This week, winter re-visited Japan. I hear that it even snowed up around Tokyo -- I'm glad I live here in beautiful(?), never-too-cold downtown Osaka. But today, the temperature shot back up to 20 degrees C (or really warm in F).

The weather is not predictable, but your site traffic can be predictable with a good article campaign in place.

I'm sure you've heard time after time that articles are a great way to drive traffic to your site. They are -- if they are well-written. Some of the junk that is being peddled lately, is more likely to drive people away.

Remember this, you don't put articles out there merely to create links to your site -- you want to build a reputation, establish your expertise, and give readers a good reason to seek you out.

CREATING ARTICLES THAT INVITE FURTHER READING

Your articles are like advertisements for your site -- without any actual advertising.

Let me explain that statement. If you write your article as a blatant ad for your product or service, it will be rejected. You need to write an article that subtly pulls readers to your site, by making them want to read more. A good article will give the reader just enough information to whet their appetite.

WHAT TYPE OF ARTICLE?

The easiest types of articles to write -- which give good information, show your valuable knowledge, and invite your reader to visit your site -- are tips, lists, how-to, recipes.

You can give your reader a number of tips, with the promise that more tips can be found at your site. Same goes for steps in a how-to, objects of a list, or recipes. For example: If you're giving a great recipe of a Hawaiian Pineapple-Rum Upside-Down Cake, in the resource box of your article you can let your reader know that other great cake recipes are waiting at your site.

GIVE THE "WHAT"

Whenever you give away free information, give the "what to do" -- not the "how to do". The detailed information showing exactly how to achieve a certain result, is what you will sell.

For example: If you're selling a video that shows a step-by-step routine for building an impressive six-pack of abdominal muscles, you can write an article that discusses the types of exercises that will be most beneficial. Of course, for the reader to perform these exercises properly, it will be in their best interest to purchase your video ;-)

HOW LONG?

An article that's 400-800 words long will please the article directories, and give your reader a good bit of information.

Most importantly: Give your reports some "Wow Factor". Impress the reader with something they didn't know.
